We had amazing seats - so close, and almost dead center. It was at The Adler in Davenport, so it was more of a theater-type venue, rather than a larger arena, which is always so much more intimate-feeling.
Trent and I are big Counting Crows fans and know several of their songs. Alternative rock/pop in the nineties pretty much rocks our world. Third Eye Blind is next for me on the bucket list to see in concert! Of course, Dave Matthews Band is our all-time favorite, which you've probably heard about a million times on this little blog of mine.
To make it even more awesome, Chris Carrabba's side project band, Twin Forks, opened for them. We've grown to really like their music this year, too. He's the frontman for Dashboard Confessional, but the sound of these guys is completely different - a lot more folky, kind of Lumineers-esque.
It was so amazing to be so close and seeing these people that you've only seen on TV or in pictures, right in front of you. Chris was so much tinier than I would have imagined! He's a little guy!
His band was so cute the way they all interacted on stage. Chris's cousin is the drummer and seemed really fun. Then there's two ladies who also sing vocals on many of their songs. I believe there's also one other guy who plays guitar - bass, maybe? (I don't know, I'm not much of a musician!) Anyway though, they were great, too.
But Adam Durtiz and the Counting Crows were really awesome. Adam is such a laid-back guy and a true artist. He tells stories through his songs, which are all really expressive. (btw - I can't believe he's 50! Wow.)
He doesn't sing the songs live exactly how they sound recorded, and he doesn't try to. He sings the songs how he feels at that moment, which makes it harder to sing along, but also makes you want to listen more. O.A.R. is really similar in that way - we saw them live a few years back.
Adam doesn't have an extreme amount of energy on stage either, but he expresses so much just through his hands and facial expressions, so it was fun to watch. We had a really great time.
All in all, it was a great show, and one that we probably won't get to attend again any time soon. I'm so glad we finally got to see them and experience all of their amazing songs live and in person.
Tomorrow is our Christmas gift exchange and get together with my mom's side of the family. I'm excited to get together and exchange gifts! On the other hand though, Trent thinks he has the flu (he's in bed as I type this at 7:00 pm). He had chills and a fever today, so we'll see if he will be able to make it tomorrow. I'm hoping he feels up to it! It's a very rare thing for him to get sick. I think this is the first time I've ever seen him sick before. This is definitely a first.
