A Dream Dressing Room, Inspired By Arhaus

Today I'm sharing my Dream Dressing Room with you all! This post is in collaboration with Arhaus, which is the source for so many beautiful decor and furniture pieces. 

If you're like me, you dream about a multifunctional space to elegantly store all of your clothes, shoes, and handbags, to try on your outfits for both day and night, and to do your makeup. A place where you feel beautiful, and a place that's all your own. I think a dressing room should accommodate all of these things while still having that luxurious and stylish feel.

When I think of my dream dressing room, elegance and airy, feminine touches come to mind. I think of a classic and elegant chandelier and neutral tones. All white shelves and drawers, and a makeup vanity. A framed fashion print on the walls. A tufted chair with a fluffy pillow, a contemporary rug, and of course, pink peonies - those are a staple for me in nearly every room! They're the little pop of color that a neutral room needs.

I don't quite have that dream closet space in my home yet, but I've put together a mood board to illustrate my Dream Dressing Room:

Fall Style Board Challenge

Even though we're now well into November, there's still time to talk about incorporating cozy autumn decorative touches in the home! So today, with a little inspiration from the Douglas Elliman real estate firm's Florida office, I'm sharing a fun style board to help you bring fall accents into a room. 

Adding fall accents to my home's decor is one of my favorite things about getting ready for the colder months. I like to add in cozy, warm linens, layered textures, and fall colors like oranges and golds. 

An easy way to bring fall into your home is to start with a neutral canvas. Let's take the living room, for example. Start with a tan, gray, or beige sofa, along with neutral curtains and rug that you can keep as a staple year-round. Then switch out accessories like throw pillows, blankets, and candles as the seasons change. The best thing about this method is that you can find inexpensive decor accessories just about anywhere. Most of the items below can be found at stores like Target, Pier 1, or World Market.

Virtual Target Shopping

Hey guys! I don't know about you, but every time I step into Target, I have to brace myself, because I know I won't be able to resist spending a ton of money on things I don't really need! From clothes to jewelry to home decor, I can never seem to resist the lure that is Tar-jay.

So today, just for fun, I thought I'd do a little virtual Target shopping. No money spent. Just looking online at target.com for some cute stuff! It's kind of like a wish list of things I'd totally buy if I was at the store. Sound fun? K, let's start!

I've divided my picks into 4 different categories - these are all things I can't resist when I go to Target: Accessories, Clothes, Shoes, and Home Decor.

First up...the Accessories! Here are a couple of scarves that are perfect for chilly fall weather, and I'm loving these Target handbags and necklaces, too.

Loveseat Love

I'm talking about loveseats today. We don't yet have one of these in our home, but we've definitely thought about it because of the small space we have in our house. Our living room is a slightly smaller size, and we've stuggled with trying to create a comfortable living space in here, because of the limited space. If any of you have an apartment or smaller home, you know what I mean.

Right now, we have a standard sized couch, and one side chair. But we've been looking at different solutions, like a sectional or adding a loveseat, to create more seating. One source I've been drawn to for sofas is One Kings Lane. They have a large selection of loveseats and larger sofas in a variety of styles, and they are all drool-worthy! I've come across them on Pinterest and by searches on the web, just in the search to find the perfect couch for our home.

For a little design fun, I put together a couple of solutions for styling two different loveseats I found on the One Kings Lane website. (For more solutions, check out their Loveseat Guide here)

They are two completely different styles, but I love both of them. The first is a lovely gray, elegant style loveseat; the second is a sand-colored neutral loveseat that is super versatile. All decor sources are listed below each collage.

For my first collage, I styled a room around this elegant Donna Antiqued Gray Loveseat in a modern, open and airy office space. An open space with a nice conversation area that's easy to collaborate on creative ideas, and just makes you want to work on creative (or blogging) projects! Picture bright, sunny windows and hardwoods.

My second collage centers around a more traditional style loveseat, the Dumont Linen Settee, that's super versatile because of its neutral, sand color and classic design. This is the kind of sofa I would love to have in my home. I love neutral furnishings, because you can bring in colorful and eclectic accessories, and the classic furniture provides a great background to style your room. I chose to style a cozy, traditional guest bedroom with seaglass colored accents and natural textures. And, I was able to find a lot of my decorative accents for this one at One Kings Lane. (Yes, they have other decor besides sofas!)

My Cozy Day Essentials

Do you have any items that you absolutely cannot live without on those lazy, stay at home days during the winter? One of my favorite things to do when I'm stuck inside all day is watch movies at home. But there are a few necessary items that go along with that to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :) I've created a little list of them for you today!

1. Cozy blankets - I'm always wrapped up in a big blanket when I'm chilling at home. These cashmere throws from Parachute Home are to die for and would definitely be a beautiful and cozy edition to your sofa or bed for those lazy days! Parachute Home also offers other cozy bedding essentials.

2. Comfy slippers - I wear my slippers around the house 24/7 in the winter. Target slippers like these are cute, inexpensive and super cozy.

3. My laptop - Of course I need my computer to blog and search Pinterest endlessly. Who doesn't? I love my Mac laptop that I got a few months back. I'm on it more than I care to admit.

4. Hot cocoa - I would sip hot cocoa everyday if I could. I'm obsessed with the different flavors right now after getting them for Christmas. White Chocolate, caramel, dark chocolate...more please!

5. Yummy-smelling candles - I've been loving the 3-wick candles from Bath & Body Works. They smell AMAZING.

6. Cute mugs - This past fall I picked up these monogram mugs from Anthropologie for Trent and I. I love how simple and classic they are, and they keep my hot cocoa nice and toasty!

No-Sew Burlap Tie Garland

I am actually participating in the Dare to DIY Challenge again this week. I was absent last week - I made some rustic ornaments instead with things I already had on hand, since I wasn't able to go to the store and buy any supplies to make something really awesome.

This week I Dared to Deck my halls with a homemade no-sew burlap garland. I've been wanting to make a banner or garland to hang across my China hutch this Christmas, so I finally got out some supplies, and started to experiment until I had something I liked.

It was really simple to do, and best of all (for me anyway!) there was no sewing involved!

In fact, the only materials I used were: 

-Burlap fabric

-Twine

-Scissors

That's it! I just cut strips of burlap and tied them in bundles around some twine. About 3 strips per bundle. I didn't do any measuring, since I didn't care if it was exact - I wanted it to look rustic and homemade. And the strips of burlap definitely look rustic!

Of course, if you don't sew, there is going to be a lot of fraying. The knots cut out some of it, but I just snipped away a lot of the frays as I went. This was my scrap pile:

But the more I went along, the more I really liked the look of it. Some of the edges were still hemmed on the end, so that helped a little. The more frayed though, the more rustic it's going to look! Even though it's a little messy as your making it, once it's hanging, there is no mess at all.

I just love it hanging on my hutch. It's perfect for both fall and winter.

And I think it kind of pulls everything together with the tree, the snowflake garland, and the stockings hanging up. So festive!

I also wrapped a lot of presents this weekend. A few more are on the way that we've ordered online, but it's looking pretty full under the tree already!

I've already started filling Trent's stocking, too. Mine has yet to be filled with anything. Empty for now. :( I'm sure there will be some goodies in there soon. But, I digress...

Holiday Table for Two

This little table setting for two is my Dare to DIY Challenge post for this week. I didn't DIY any specific thing for the table (I was going to gold-glitter some pine cones, but I wanted to use them in more versatile ways in the future). I did, however, put together my first tablescape ever using some things I had on hand and a few new things I picked up. And, being that we are not formal people and never really set the table, I actually had fun putting together this little centerpiece and dreaming up a little elegant kitchen table for us!

This week's theme was "Dare to Entertain," and I'll be linking my post up to Decor and the Dog. Last week's challenge was "Be Thankful"- you can see that post of mine here.

Since it's just us two in the house, and we don't have a dining room, I just used our kitchen table and put together a centerpiece and two place settings.

The elements I used for the centerpiece include my milk glass cake stand I had (from an antique shop), some red tinsel I had on hand, gold decorator balls from Michaels, some scented pine cones and a ceramic bowl from Wal-Mart, some berry and pine pieces from Michaels, and a couple of gold candle holders, also from Michaels. 

The little candy bowl is another milk glass item from an antique shop, and it's filled with Reese's Bells. Yum!

The festive table cloth is from Target, and the burlap runner is from Wal-Mart.

The woven chargers are from IKEA a few years back, the bronze chargers are from Target, and the plates and napkins are also from Target.

The champagne bottle is one that Trent's family gave us when we got engaged, and the vase and flowers I've had for probably four years now...I think they were from Michaels.

And that completes my first tablescape! I know I didn't include silverware or glasses or anything, but you get the idea! (We don't have formal silverware anyway)

We normally don't even really eat at the table, but now I think we need to have a formal dinner, just the two of us. This holiday table setting needs to be put to good use, don't you think? :)

Give Thanks Homemade Art

This little art project was super easy. And it was inspired by the Dare to DIY challenge theme this week. Today kicks off this challenge, with the theme being "Be Thankful," and I'm linking to the party over at the lovely blog, Shift Ctrl Art.

This week the challenge was to create something that reminds you to be thankful, whether it's a banner, homemade art, or anything that spreads the message of Thanksgiving.

I'm all for a challenge, and any excuse to get crafty this holiday season, so I decided to make my own art for this IKEA frame - which I had sitting on my end table with nothing inside. 

An empty frame is no way to spread holiday cheer, so I pulled out my handy dandy laptop and my graphics program (InDesign) and whipped up this computer art.

That's right, while the texture appears to be burlap, it's actually just printed on computer paper. The background is just a burlap image that I found online just by searching "burlap" in Google images.

 

The fonts I used are Coneria Script and The Dead Saloon - both free fonts you can download online.

 

It looks nice during the day, but I had to take some night pictures, too. With the glow of the lamp it just adds to that little warm and cozy feeling in here.

The graphics I used were from this website. Love when you can download free texts and graphics to use for your own personalized art. Makes it a heck of a lot easier. :)

Soon it will be time to start decorating the tree! Until then, I'm still enjoying my fall decor for a little longer.

Chairish Style Challenge

Hello all, and happy Friday! Last week, Holly, from an awesome online used and vintage shop called Chairish, contacted me about participating in their Style Challenge. I happily accepted the challenge! I'm always up for designing a room, whether it's in real life or virtually! Especially when it involves such amazing vintage pieces like those on Chairish. You can check out their vintage furniture for yourself here.

I had never heard of this site before, but it is such a cool and refreshing concept. They sell used and vintage pieces to design lovers everywhere. And they have an awesome selection. 

So...on to the Style Challenge! I was given multiple images of pieces from their store and was to choose one of my favorites to create a style board around. Here is my style board:

The piece I chose to build my inspiration from is the vintage dresser in the center. I chose this because it's such a timeless and versatile piece I could see myself using in my own home. When I saw this, I instantly thought of a bedroom that's classic but stylish.

Every element I used in my style board is from Chairish, unless otherwise stated below.

And now, the sources for all of these wonderful pieces, and why I chose each to use for this space:

• Dresser - This dresser was the main piece of furniture that inspired my style board. With its clean lines and beautiful wood tone, it's truly a classic, heirloom piece.
• Wallpaper - This beautiful wallpaper would be perfect for an accent wall. 
• Pair of Lamps - These lamps are timeless and in the perfect blue jewel tone, which creates a really rich look.
• Brass Elephant - I always need a bit of animal decor cheekiness in a room. Antique brass animal decor is my favorite!
• Starburst Mirror - Everyone loves a good starburst mirror. Not only is this one stylish, but it would bring a little touch of gold and glamour to the room.
• "Hung Up on You" Wall Art/ Hooks - I love this cheeky piece made from reclaimed wood. The hooks would be perfect to hang scarves and purses.
• Nightstand - This nightstand is actually part of a like-new pair, originally from West Elm, but re-sold on Chairish!  It's super simple and clean and is a perfect way to mix a little modern with vintage.
• Navy Pillows - These velvet throw pillows are a great way to incorporate a little color and texture into the room. 
• Printed Pillow - I love to work in printed accent pillows wherever I can in my home. This would add a touch of style and punch with the navy pillows behind it. 
• Headboard - A lovely, plush headboard with nailhead trim provides just a little touch of elegance to this bedroom.
• Bedspread - I love the soft, pretty texture and color of this bedspread, from West Elm.
• White Vase - I couldn't resist a simple vase with some pink peonies for a pop of girly color. (Vase from Chairish, Peonies found on Pinterest)
• Wall Color - A nice, neutral wall color will make all of the other elements in the room really pop. This color is Manchester Tan from Benjamin Moore. (Image from here)

Krylon Challenge
